Catriona Whiteford (she/her) is a curator, artist, and writer based in London, specialising in intersectional critical theory and contemporary feminist, crip visual culture. Her research explores the nuanced interplay between language and poetics, fostering dialogues across multiple epistemologies and artistic disciplines. Invested in the potential for transformation within objects, her artistic practice explores forms of intimacy where language permeates sound, installation and sculptural work.

Currently serving as Assistant Curator at Hayward Gallery Touring, she collaborates with artists, curators, writers, and non-profit arts organisations to develop and curate major interdisciplinary and monographic national touring exhibitions, artistic programmes, and commissions. Notable projects include British Art Show 9, After the End of History: British Working Class Photography 1989–2024, and Material Worlds: Contemporary Artists and Textiles.

She is Co-Chair of GENERATOR Projects’ Board of Trustees and has held positions at Tate Britain & Tate Modern, Freelands Foundation, National Galleries of Scotland, and Stills, Scotland’s Centre for Photography. Catriona has co-developed projects with organisations including Chelsea Space, Whitworth Gallery, Focal Point, and Mead Gallery. She previously co-founded and co-directed the ARI Coup Red in Edinburgh and curated the Freelands Emerging Artist Programme, supporting emergent artistic practice throughout the UK and beyond. At Freelands Foundation, she worked with four partner organisations—G39, Ps2, Site Gallery, and Talbot Rice Gallery—mentoring 22 artists nationwide.

In 2023, she was awarded the prestigious International Curator Residency at Fire Station Artists’ Studios in Dublin and received an Arts Council England DYCP Award. She has held residencies at Hangar (Lisbon), Zaratan Contemporanea (Lisbon), Door Creative Studio (Amsterdam), and Flamingo (Hungary) and has guest lectured and served as a visiting tutor at institutions such as Edinburgh College of Art and Grays School of Art. Published extensively on contemporary art and culture, she has contributed to Art Monthly, Arcadia Missa's annual journal 'How To Sleep Faster 14' (2024), exhibition publications such as There Where We Promenade and recently served on the panel of advisors for Vitamin P4: New Perspectives in Painting, the latest instalment in Phaidon’s renowned Vitamin series.
